AICN Comics just posted my review of  EVANGELION 2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE.

You can see the review by clicking here.

In all honesty, this movie was just fantastic. It takes anime and “hand drawn” animation to a whole new level. This is the movie that reminds me why I started loving anime in the first place.

As I mentioned in the review, I actually went back to the original series to prep for this and I just have to say that it is just as impressive to me now than it was when I first saw it over ten years ago. Neon Genesis Evangelion really was an astounding and mind bending work of art and was one of the Japanese cartoons that fueled an obsession within me that would last for years. Honestly, these days, I can’t find an anime series that compels me to stick with it for more than a couple of episodes. But it’s easy to see why I just totally went in whole hog after being exposed to Evangelion the first time. Actually, It was Giant Robo that got me into tracking down anime series and Akira that originally blew my mind. But Evangelion was the one that said, “Hey! This can be art! This can have meaning! This is more than just giant fighting robots and big-boobed warrior women!”

Over ten years later they are re-creating it into a series of films that is just as impressive in its own way as the original series. Check them both out if you have the time. You’ll find that they are well worth your time.
