Every once in a while, a creator comes up with an idea that makes other creators green with envy and makes them think, “Why didn’t I think of that?” When David Pepose thought up the concept of taking Calvin and Hobbes and dipping it into the morally murky world of Sin City he created one of those ideas. Spencer and Locke is comic about a hard-boiled police detective who investigates crime alongside his imaginary friend who happens to be a seven foot tall panther named Spencer. In his comic Pepose takes what is initially a lighthearted idea on its surface and turns it into a narrative that is very mature with a dark edge. On this episode of Part-Time Fanboy Kristian chats with David Pepose about how he took some iconic comic strip ideas and twisted them into something else and came out the other side with a very grown up comic book story that touches on some of the darker aspects of the human character.
