SPOILERS! Carol Danvers is a character who was originally created by Roy Thomas and Gene Colan as part of the supporting cast for the original Marvel Captain Marvel back in the late 1960’s. In her time in comics she would eventually become Marvel’s female counterpart Ms. Marvel and evolve into a character whose backstory would be one of the most convoluted in comic book history. She would start as a strong working professional, become a powerful superhero, be made the victim of sexual assault, and become an amnesiac before eventually being restored to the ranks of one of the more powerful superheroes in the Marvel Universe…yet still in the guise of Ms. Marvel. It wasn’t until 2012 when Kelly Sue DeConnick changed her alter ego to Captain Marvel that Danvers actually became a true female iconic figure within comic pages.

Last weekend Marvel Studios released their first superhero movie with a female lead and Captain Marvel was the character who took center stage. Starring Brie Larson, the movie became the target of internet trolls before it was even released as it became a lightning rod that would attract every insecure male voice in fandom. Despite those attacks, it went on to critical success and became one of the biggest box office draws in Marvel history and of the year so far. This week the Part-Time Fanboy crew sit down to discuss the latest Marvel movie that goes higher, further, faster. Kristian invites writer Cindy Jenkins onto the podcast to have a chat with PTF regulars Corey Blake and Josh Ripley to discuss the latest Marvel superhero to take the world by storm!
