SPOILERS! Ever since the creation of the original superhero, Superman, there have been creators who have imagined what would happen if the first caped crusader turned bad. Even Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, when they first created him, imagined Superman as a world conqueror. Over the years there have been different versions of the not-so-pure Last Son of Krypton. From the first Bizarro appearance, to the Crime Syndicate’s Ultraman, to the Squadron Supreme’s Hyperion, to Alan Moore’s Marvelman, to Mark Waid’s Irredeemable…there have always been tales told of a Superman like figure walking an unscrupulous path.
This past weekend saw the cinematic debut of that same narrative. Brightburn tells the tale of a young boy who is rocketed to Earth as an infant and is adopted by a kindly farming couple who raise them as their own. Unfortunately, in this movie…things don’t turn out as well in this story as they did for the Kents. On this episode of Part-Time Fanboy, Kristian (a supreme Superman fan) sits down with his pals Paul Edwards, Reyna Velarde, and J. Holtham to discuss the latest tale of a Superman gone wrong!
