Several years ago when North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un threatened to kill Hollywood movie starts Seth Rogan and James Franco because of their creating the comedy The Interview, artist and writer Sean McArdle began wondering…what if Adolf Hitler had decided to do the same thing to Charlie Chaplin while he was making The Great Dictator? Hence was born the kernel of the idea for the terrific comic mini-series known as The Fuhrer and The Tramp. In his series, McArdle imagines what would happen if Chaplin, along with classic movie stars Errol Flynn and Hedy Lamarr, got wrapped up in espionage-like hi-jinks while attempting to thwart Hitler’s world conquering ambitions. On this week’s episode Kristian chats with Sean about a whole host of subjects some of which include: silent films, the foibles of old Hollywood movie stars, creating art for yourself vs. art for other people, and investing in yourself as a creator. It’s a terrific chat with the creator and co-writer of one of Kristian’s favorite comic finds of 2020!
