Beowulf is an old English epic poem which has been translated into comic book form many times over. It’s never really had a comic book sequel until now. Grant Lankard is a writer and graphic designer who has crafted a humorous tale of the classic warrior of old being reincarnated into modern times in order to combat a resurrected evil. There’s only one problem…in today’s world Beowulf has been reborn as a Millennial slacker who doesn’t really have any interest in combatting the forces of evil. Lankard’s Beowulf is currently funding its fourth issue on Kickstarter. This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Grant about the inspiration behind his continuation of the classic piece of literature, why he finds superheroes interesting as protagonists, and how important visual background details can matter to building characters in a comic book.
