Ari Gross is, in Kristian’s opinion, a talent deserving of wider recognition. He’s only just begun his comic creation journey in the past several years with books like Awakening, Wardens, and Upkeep but the stories he creates show promise of a writer to keep an eye on. The second chapter of his Tales From The Crypt like horror tale, Upkeep, is currently funding on Kickstarter. Upkeep is the story of a family who finds their dream home but must pay a steep morale price in order to keep it. This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Ari about making a comic where each issue takes place one year after the previous issue and how that timeline may coincide with the actual release dates of the book itself. They discuss how Upkeep may be like Richard Linklater’s film Boyhood due to the time and effort it takes for an indie creator to actually put out a book on their own dime and how he plans the structure of a comic that could take him years to complete.
