Travis Webb is a writer who’s comic Starlite was recently completed via several crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter. Since he was a teenager, Travis has been a fan of the cyberpunk genre, in particular of the Japanese manga and anime which made tales of a future world where cyborgs and giant mecha existed seem plausible. Then Travis discovered the films of director Albert Pyun. In movies like Cyborg and Nemesis, Pyun attempted to take the things that comics and animation had dreamed up and bring them into live action movies. Now, over three decades since the first Nemesis film debuted, Travis will begin a crowdsourcing campaign in January to fund a graphic novel sequel to the film with the blessing of Pyun’s estate. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Travis about his love for Pyun’s work, how he came into contact with the filmmaker’s widow, and how comics are the perfect medium for the director’s cyberpunk action stories.
