John Lees has found his success as a writer of horror comics. Despite that success and his love for the horror genre, John was a fan of and had the desire to delve into the realm of romantic comedies. Embracing his love of romcoms, Lee threw caution to the wind and crafted his latest comic, Orla! Orla! is an exploration of all of the anxieties and pitfalls that women can experience when they go out into the dating pool and find nothing but a certain toxic breed of male. But the central character in Orla! is a special breed of woman who has her own way of dealing with men who feel entitled to treat women as objects purely for their gratification. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with John about why he wanted to write a book that takes on toxic masculinity, how he was able to deftly portray the unease that women may feel when looking for love, and how men and women may not be so different when it comes to the things that bring out their insecurities.
