Karla Nappi is a writer who released her own comic book series on Kickstarter, known as Duplicant, right before the actual Covid pandemic took hold here in the United States. Duplicant tells the tale of a virus that causes catastrophic organ failure. The future society of her comic uses that outbreak to make their citizens indentured servants to pay for the treatment that enables them to survive. This week Karla launches the Kickstarter to fund the fourth issue of her series! On this episode of Part-Time Fanboy Kristian sits down with Karla to chat about all things pandemic-related as well as the terrific news that Duplicant has been picked up by comic book publisher Second Sight Publishing! Karla chats about how closely the events in her comic match the real-life events of the Covid pandemic, how religion in her family helped shape her story, the failures of the U.S. healthcare system both during and pre-pandemic, and how crazy belief systems have done so much harm in the world’s attempts to hold society together during this trying time.
