Destiny, NY is a graphic novel series that writer Pat Shand has been publishing via Kickstarter campaigns for the past several years…that is, until a couple of weeks ago when indie publisher Black Mask Studios began releasing the series as individual issues into comic shops. In an original and unique publishing strategy, Black Mask Studios is taking Destiny, NY and releasing it as a series of comics periodicals after it has already been published as four full graphic novels via Kickstarter. This week Kristian sits down with Pat to discuss this interesting method of releasing his comic book series. Pat talks about his experiences with funding several comic book series using the popular crowdfunding campaign, how experimenting with different release strategies can be good for comics, and why he, as a male writer, is drawn to writing compelling stories that feature female protagonists as the lead characters.
