Richard Fairgray is a comic book creator who originally hails from New Zealand. In his home country, Richard published in the neighborhood of two hundred and thirty five books and achieved a level of success in the kiwi comics market that just about any other creator of sequential art would envy. For Fairgray, however, conquering the comic book scene in his corner of the world was not enough. Eventually he would head to the United States where he would find success in publishing books like the charming Blastosaurus and Black Sand Beach…the second volume of which was just released several weeks ago via Pixel + Ink. This week Kristian sits for a chat with Richard to discuss how he achieved his success in his home country, how a comic book reader leaving one of his comics laying around on the set of a Wolverine movie lead to the chance of a lifetime, and how he ended up coming to America to find a new market for his fun and unique brand of comics!
Note: In the early part of the interview there were some connectivity problems. Issues were quickly resolved and things continued as normal so please have patience with the beginning of the discussion.
