Joshua Spiller is writer with a different method of creating comics. Instead of crafting a script from scratch, he approaches the artists he’d like to work with and asks them what sort of subject matter they’d like to draw. After he gets that information, he’ll go off and craft a story to their strengths as an artist so both of them can enjoy the process of creating their book. That’s the method he used to create Sinavore, his current project currently running a campaign on Kickstarter. Sinavore tells the tale of a young man from the 21st century who finds himself trapped in the prehistoric past and befriending a small, timid dinosaur. Together they fight to survive in a terrifying wasteland while also fending off a giant, carnivorous, see-through T-Rex. On this episode of Part-Time Fanboy, Kristian chats with Joshua about his unique way of putting a project together, his attempt at making cheaper comics available via the Kickstarter platform, and how the power dynamics of a working relationship play out when the writer and artist on a project are playing towards each other’s strengths.
