Darling is a comic story set in the seedy backdrop of the pre-Giuliani New York City. Written by Michael Fleizach and Todd Hunt, Darling explores an evening in which a drug addict make his way through the gritty, hardcore, wonderland of early eighties NYC. The story was originally inspired by the passing of Michael’s brother due to a drug overdose several years ago. Mike and Todd took the pieces of that tragedy and used them as the initial inspiration for Darling. This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast Kristian talks to Todd and Michael about how the skeleton of Darling was built from a tragic family loss, why their story had to take place in New York in the early eighties, and how Lewis Carrol’s classic Alice in Wonderland and other fairy tales inspired the world they built for their comic book tale.
