Brian De Palma was one of the most sensational and controversial directors of the nineteen seventies and eighties. After making a big splash at the box office with his blood soaked adaptation of Stephen King‘s novel Carrie, De Palma made another thriller about psychically powered teenagers. Based on a novel by John Farris, The Fury tells the story of a pair of teens with horrifying mental abilities and the man who’s working to free them from the clutches of a shadowy government organization attempting to turn them into human weapons. Starring Kirk Douglas, Amy Irving, John Cassavetes, and Andrew Stevens, The Fury is not one of De Palma’s best known films but it’s one that fans of comic book superhero properties like the X-Men might most likely enjoy. This week, Kristian sits down with his pal Yvis Cannavale to commune about The Fury and its horrifying take on superpowered adolescents.
