Chris Northrop and Mark Schey met online during the toughest days of the COVID pandemic. With the comic book and entertainment industry facing complete shutdowns both of them decided to take opportunity from disaster and form their own production company, Horrible Future. Together they came up with the idea of a science fiction anthology that would tell the stories revealed in the recordings of the black box recorders from crashed spaceships…that they would call Black Box Chronicles! Eventually they would gather some of the best artists in the comic industry such as David Mack and Michael Avon Oeming to become part of their gorgeous and beautifully written sci-fi compilation. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian has a conversation with Chris and Mark that dives into the nitty-gritty of producing a first-class anthology book, why it’s important to treat your collaborators with respect and understanding, and why they decided to form their own comic production company at a time when the industry was literally facing an existential crisis!
