Hey, you guys have a pretty decent little podcast here, but don’t be afraid to edit now and then. Listeners don’t need to hear the technical issues and connections being made at the beginning. Production values would feel a good but higher with a good intro and a straight line into the conversation.
Thought it was interested too that you guys took the opposite meaning from the evolution line that other people did. Myself and people I’ve spoken too felt like the movie was suggesting that the bad guys were the ones that believed in evolution, that Kryptonians embraced evolution ended up with a planetwide eugenics program free of individual choice. Just felt a tad close to malignant Creationist propaganda that would fit with the Superman-as-Protestant-Jesus theme of the flick.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment and advice Andrew. Generally speaking I do tend to edit out pre-podcast banter but I felt that the opening connecting bits were humorous and added a friendly feel to this particular episode. I listen to a lot of podcasts and I’ve heard this sort of thing done on other shows. I feel it helps to make the whole thing friendlier in tone and allows listeners to relate to us if they can hear us speak outside of the podcast subject a bit. If it helps any I actually did edit out some stuff from the opening banter.
Not sure what you’re implying by the Evolution comment. The way that you’re presenting it (if I understand you correctly) it seems that in the context of her speech and Kryptonian society that her comments make less sense being that Kryptonians are genetically engineered and not allowed to evolve on their own. More bad writing in that script in my opinion. I was talking more about the underlying message of the bad guys being for evolution (which Kryptonians don’t seem to be) and Superman being a somewhat religious figure in the movie. It just made me balk a little as it seemed as if the filmmakers were implying that evolution might be “bad” in some way.
Thanks for listening! I hope that you’ll check out some of our other episodes and feel free to follow us on Facebook or on Twitter if you feel compelled to do so!
