Christopher Kappel is a TV writer who’s just had his first graphic novel published by the Maverick imprint of Mad Cave Studios. Wrack and Rune tells the story of two young men who develop romantic feelings for each other. There’s only one problem, one of them happens to be a member of a secret society of magic users known as Translators and when that society finds out that he’s revealed their existence to his new love interest, they demand the right to erase his memory. It’s a story that will seem familiar to readers of Harry Potter and the X-Men but with a twist that exposes how works like those weren’t necessarily inclusive as they could have been. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Christopher about his unique take on the superpowered secret society genre and how his retooling of the concept kind of blew Kristian’s mind.
