episode167-medJavier Hernandez is the creator of the indie classic comic book known as El Muerto. Hernandez has been creating his own comic books since the 1990’s. A lover of comics since he was a little kid, Hernandez was driven to create a hero that embraced the cultural heritage of his upbringing in Los Angeles. His drive paid off early when El Muerto was made into a movie shortly after the debut of its first issue. Now Hernandez is resurrecting his creation with the forthcoming publication of a new El Muerto graphic novel. He’s also just come out with an ode to late ’70’s early ’80’s vigilante thrillers called Maniac Priest. Kristian sits down for a chat with Javier to discuss his love of comics, what drove him to create one of the first indie Latino superheroes, and what’s been behind the drive that’s kept him wanting to make his own comics for so long!
