Nuclear Power is a comic which depicts an alternate world in which the United States and the Soviet Union engaged in a nuclear war during The Cuban Missile Crisis. Described by its creators as The Handmaid’s Tale meets the X-Men, Nuclear Power tells the tale of a decimated United States in which 25% of children are born with crippling deformities due to the fallout radiation from the initial attacks. This forces the government to place strict limits on who can and cannot have children. This week Kristian chats with writers DesirĂ©e Proctor and Erica Harrell, as well as artist Lynne Yoshii who are the talents behind the fantastic new series being published by Fanbase Press. DesirĂ©e and Erica chat about their Cuban heritage and how it drew them to write a book whose background was steeped in The Cuban Missle Crisis, Lynne chats about embracing Soviet and Cuban Communist propaganda art to develop a unique look for the series, and they all discuss how they met through the DC Comics New Talent Workshop and how they ended up developing their own method of collaboration which helped them create one of the best new comics being produced in today’s market!
