Richard Fairgray is a prolific and imaginative graphic novelist. While in his home country of New Zealand he wrote and illustrated hundreds of pages of comics…becoming one of that country’s most popular comic book creators. In recent years he’s made North America his home base and published books such as Blastosauraus, Black Sand Beach, and Cardboardia which were stories aimed at younger readers. Last week, Richard released his newest comic, Haunted Hill, which is the first story for readers of an older mindset that he’s released in a while. This week Kristian sits down with Richard to chat about the ideas behind his latest book, how the Covid pandemic affected his ability to sell his books to the public, why he gives away digital versions of his stories for free on his website, and about the various misadventures he’s had in Hollywood California which helped provide the framework for Haunted Hill.
