Phil Mucci is a film maker and comic creator who has a deep affection for Italian movies from the late sixties and early seventies. He’s such a fan, he named his his production company, Diabolik Films, after the cult classic action thriller Danger: Diabolik! When he formed his own comic book title he dubbed it The Diabolik Double Feature and with titles like Orgy of the Blood Freaks and Gringo Loco, Mucci has developed stories that pay tribute to both the Giallo horror and Spaghetti Western movies of days gone past. This week Kristian chats with Phil about the creation of his Doctor Strange/Constantine-like lead character Professor Dario Bava, how they both came to appreciate Westerns through the work of Sergio Leone, and why they both think old movies should be studied and appreciated by modern filmgoing audiences.
