In 2019 the idea of composting human remains as an environmentally friendly alternative to funerals or cremation became a reality in the state of Washington. Writers Scott Duvall and Sean Reliford took note of this new way to dispose of the dearly departed and wondered what would happen if the dead came back not as your typical zombie, but as Swamp Thing/Groot-like vegetative tree creatures with sentience. Thus was born the idea of Going Green…a new comic book series debuting this week on the Zoop crowdfunding platform. This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Duvall and Reliford about their novel approach to the undead, how their relationships towards life and death helped shape their concept, what movies and comics have influenced them to create their own comic book story, and why they should all go out and form the Sarah Polley Appreciation Society.
