But when it came to his latest book it was his artist collaborator, Luca Pizzari, who inspired the project with just one phrase that happened to be stuck in his head..."Vampyrates!" When Fred heard that word escape from Luca's lips, a new comic series was born. One that was focused on a world of swashbuckling vampires, living in an alternate history where a thousand year eclipse has made vamps the masters of the seven seas and beyond. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Fred about his newest series being published through Boom! Studios. Fred talks about why the idea of blending vampires with pirates was so appealing to him, which half of the Vampyrates! combination he likes better, buccaneers or bloodsuckers, and how his role playing game expertise helped him in creating the setting in which his new comic book takes place.
