Fred Schwartz is a writer who's had a bit of a difficult past. Schwartz is an alcoholic and at one point in his life his addiction became so consuming that he ended up in a coma with severe kidney damage. Luckily, he was able to recover as his body miraculously healed from the harm that alcohol had caused him. Once he was on the road to recovery, he decided it was time to pursue his dream of making comics. It took years but he eventually ended up making Fisticuffs (now funding on Kickstarter), a comic about an irresponsible alcoholic who suddenly becomes endowed with superpowers. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Fred about his downward spiral into alcoholism, how he eventually hit rock bottom, and how he used his own life experiences to tell a fun and compelling story about a man with no moral compass who's been given a unique and powerful gift.
