A little over a week ago, the finale of Lanterns aired. Lanterns was the latest entry in the new James Gunn era of the DC Comics cinematic universe. Based characters appearing in the Green Lantern series of comic books, the show took a property that was about an intergalactic police force and confined it to small town Nebraska. It was a hit from the get-go, pulling in ratings that HBO/MAX had never seen before for its streaming service, but comic book fans were divided. Some loved the hard edged detective story that pitted John Stewart against Hal Jordan and others bemoaned the scope the series had restricted itself to.
This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian sits down with Green Lantern fans Keith Howell, Joe Slepski (of the Joe on Joe podcast), and Yvis Cannavle to discuss what they thought about the latest entry in the cosmic ring slinger mythos. Is Lanterns a unique and interesting take on DC's Green Lantern Corps or is it just a mean spirited, cynical adaptation of the property?
